Situation

A customer of Harry Taylor HVAC for over 20 years, we have been servicing and maintaining the heating appliances in their UK stores, building up a trusted and longstanding relationship.

During the 2026 annual service we discovered that the Powrmatic NV40 heater (originally installed in 2006) had a cracked heat exchanger.

The heat exchanger is the chamber which encloses the main burner flames, ensuring dangerous products of combustion, (Carbon Monoxide) are contained in the heater and safely released into the atmosphere. A cracked Heat Exchanger means that these products of combustion can be released into the room, creating an unsafe environment. 

Solution

Our engineer carried out a full survey, checking building fabric, gas meter capacity and heater location. Everything was fine and we quoted to replace the appliance with an LX40 which has a very similar heat output. 

Benefits

By replacing the older NV heater with a modern high efficiency LX40 has increased efficiency and reduced NOx emissions.

The LX40 is an ErP 2021 compliant heater, complete with a modulating burner as standard.

We also replaced the older ‘thermostat’ controller with a digital controller which offers 7 day time and temperature control, frost protection and optimisation. Frost protection, means that staff can set minimum night temperatures, protecting heat sensitive stock. Optimisation means that the controller will self-learn on how long it takes to warm the building, i.e. when it should switch on to achieve a 19°C temperature at 9am.

The system we installed is a set and forget appliance.  This in conjunction with our annual service plan means complete peace of mind.

Efficiency & Emissions

The heating system was installed by one of our inhouse trained Gas Safe registered engineer. The old heater was taken down and the new system installed in one day, and the shop was able to remain open to trade.
